The First Amendment treats religious practices as different from other human activities. In matters of the spirit, the government is supposed to be neutral: It may not restrict religious beliefs or practices, and it may not promote or subsidize them. Alabama Senate Democratic candidate Doug Jones says he does not know if he can reassure Alabamians that he will protect their religious freedom and their culture, because if they are not Christian in the same way he is, their culture is “discriminatory.”

Obama’s policies lit the fuse. The withdrawal from Iraq, the Arab Spring, the Iranian Nuke deal and the alliance with the Shiite regime in Baghdad did a great deal to increase Iranian power. When the United States left Iraq, Iran took control. The Arab Spring tore apart the region. And Iran used the opportunity to expand its power over Yemen, Iraq and Syria. The nuke deal signaled that Obama wouldn’t do anything to stop Iran from becoming a nuclear power or a regional power. And by outsourcing the fight against ISIS to Shiite terrorist militias, Obama allowed Iran to consolidate control over Iraq and Syria. Senate Judiciary Committee chairman Senator Chuck Grassley is seeking original drafts of then FBI director James Comey’s statements on the Hillary Clinton email investigation. According to Grassley, changes to the remarks such as “grossly negligent,” edited to “extremely careless,” may have impacted the conclusion reached in the investigation.
